Sawanee Khongsawatwaja

Assistant Dean, Budget and Finance

Sawanee Khongsawatwaja is the Assistant Dean for Budget and Finance at Stony Brook University's School of Social Welfare. In this role, she serves as the primary financial, business, and administrative officer, providing leadership to ensure the efficient use of financial resources. She oversees all finance functions, including budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and grants management, as well as personnel functions such as recruiting, employee relations, and payroll.

Sawanee has a keen interest in organizational administration, particularly in program budgeting and monitoring to ensure timely and effective service delivery. She is dedicated to maximizing and appropriately allocating resources. Her extensive experience equips her to handle both administrative and fiscal responsibilities while serving the diverse populations at Stony Brook. Her background in management, current leadership role as Assistant Dean, commitment to health sciences education, and passion for academic planning and resource management make her a valuable member of the School's leadership team.

Before joining Stony Brook University, Sawanee accumulated over 20 years of experience in various financial and leadership positions. She began her career as a Research Analyst at NASDAQ, then moved to The New School as a Budget Analyst. Following that, she worked with the ICAP team at Columbia University School of Public Health as Finance Coordinator/Manager before transitioning to Weill Cornell Medical Center as the Financial Reporting Administrator. Most recently, she served as the Associate Dean for Fiscal and Administrative Affairs at St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she further developed her leadership skills.

Sawanee holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Stony Brook University and a Master of Science in Health Services Management from The New School.
