Gary has a long history of engagement and innovation in progressive learning environments, spanning from his own undergraduate education to his years as dean for teaching and learning at Warren Wilson College (Asheville, NC). He draws on his skills as a teacher to bring faculty into understanding the business model. Through conversation and examples Gary will share his journey of engaging faculty in finding solutions to today’s economic challenges. His creative practice informs his collaborative leadership: as a poet he is a systems maker, looking for patterns among gathered data and experiences; as a visual artist he is a design thinker, encouraging multiple drafts to both broaden a question and refine a solution. |
Gary Hawkins, is an active poet, artist, editor, scholar, and administrator, and serves Hampshire College as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty where he is responsible for all aspects of the academic mission, budget management for academic affairs, and shared governance.
